Larry’s Lines. . .

By Larry Murphy, Executive Director

HOW BIG IS YOUR GOD?

How many of you have read the children’s book Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day?  In this book one calamity after another happens to Alexander in his young life.

There are times when it seems life all of a sudden begins to spin us around.  Not sleeping well so you stay tired, a car accident, things not well at work, home life may be tough at times, health problems, financial emergencies, coronavirus, death in the family, you name it and something is wrong.

Well, I want to assure you that God is faithful, and according to Romans 8:28-29, He is working for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.  He is working to conform us to the likeness of His Son.

In Genesis 18, after Abraham and Sarah have been reminded of the promise of God that they would have a son and Sarah laughed about having a child at their age, verse 14 asked, “Is anything too hard for the Lord?”  You know and I know that the overwhelming answer is NO! Nothing is too hard or too big for God to handle.  Our problem is we are not willing to wait, believe and trust Him to take care of our Alexander days.

Nothing taking place right now in our world has taken God by surprise.  I know that, yet I still question and I grow weak in patience and faith.

A little girl after a family devotion about God caring for us and supplying all our needs ask her daddy this question, “Daddy, how big is God?”  After a minute of careful thought, he answered, “God is always a little bigger than any problem we have.”

I truly pray for you and I ask you to pray for me that the words of the following children’s song will be the song of our hearts during these very different days.

My God is so big! So strong and so mighty.  There’s nothing my God cannot do.

My God is so big!  So strong and so mighty.  There’s nothing my God cannot do.

The mountains are his and the valleys are his, And the trees are his handiwork too.

My God is so big! So strong and so mighty.  There’s nothing my God cannot do for you.

I love you all, Madison-Chester and Crockett, and I truly believe God has great things in store for us if we will trust Him.
